Leadership

Successful Transition of Leadership:
For the first time in the NAA’s history, there was transition of leadership through election. Two (2) members of the previous leadership team – Yaw Anim Obiri and Hayford Asare-Tabiri – were elected to continue serving on the new leadership team. All three Regional Coordinators volunteered to serve. We are very grateful for their continuous service and leadership.

These are the current elected and volunteered serving leaders. Enoch Asante-Bediako – President Richmond Nettey – Vice President Gladys Mante-Nyadu – Secretary Sekyiwa Gyeke-Dako – Assistant Secretary± Lillian Hunter-Segbefia – Treasurer Janice Marfo – Assistant Treasurer Yaw Anim Obiri – Registrar* Lynda Sarpong – Assistant Registrar Hayford Asare-Tabiri – Project Officer* Stephen Ohene-Larbi – Assistant Project Officer Vera Larbi – Regional Coordinator (US Region)** Joyce Saforo – Regional Coordinator (Canada Region)** Kingsley Addo – Regional Coordinator (Africa, Europe & Asia Regions)**

*Served on previous leadership team
**Not elected; volunteered to serve

Business/Leadership Cadence:
A monthly leadership meeting schedule was established and followed through successfully throughout the year; leaders met once a month to review state of organization and its needs. The meetings served as collaboration and decision-making opportunity, and also helped keep ourselves informed.

Membership and Engagement

Membership:
There were 72 members on roll at the beginning of the year. The year closed out with 80 members on file; We lost 2 members and welcomed 10 new members. Annual roll call was held at the beginning of the year.

Engagement:
Two general meetings – one in each half of the year – were planned and successfully held; the first held in February and the last held in September. We continued the tradition of recognizing and celebrating members’ birthday with well-wishing messages as a way to keep members engaged.

The “Hot Seat’ experience was introduced as another engagement booster; members occasionally volunteered to be the subject of a Q&A session from members; the subject answered questions and shared school and life experiences at their discretion. The experience was a hit initially, with heightened interest and good participation. However, interest and participation dwindled over time.

We continue to look for new ways to keep members active and engaged in NAA business.

Finance

Financial Health:
The overall financial health of NAA continues to be sound.

Treasury balance at the beginning of the year, which comprised of registration fee proceeds, remaining balance from previous project fundraiser and donations for planned projects, was US$15,837.75.

Fundraiser:
A fundraising campaign was re-launched to raise the remaining amount needed to meet the target amount of US$20,000 to fund planned projects on NSHS campus. The fundraiser was originally launched in February, 2020. A familiar ‘birthday challenge” approach traditionally known as “Kofi ne Ama” competition was used for members to compete against each other to donate most money by birthday, which made it fun while accomplishing our goal. Total amount realized from the campaign was US$20,066.38, slightly exceeding the target amount.

Partnership with NOSA

NOSA Elections:
For the first time in years, NOSA also underwent election process to elect new leaders. NAA members were instrumental in the planning process and were actively involved in the promotion and execution of the election process. Noteworthy of mention are Stephen Ohene-Larbi and Vera Larbi, among others, for their active roles in making the election process a success.

NSHS Campus Projects:
NAA and NOSA leaders established a collaborative relationship to plan and oversee the execution of identified projects on campus. NAA and NOSA leaders held joint leaders and general meetings as part of the collaborative effort to align goals and plans. The infrastructural needs of the school were assessed and documented by a sub-committee made up of NAA and NOSA members in prior years. During the year, the identified needs were reviewed and re-prioritized to be addressed in phased projects over time.

Sections of the boys’ dormitory were selected as immediate need to address. Our NOSA counterparts have since initiated exploratory work to employ resources to start work on projects.
